Choose your own path and immerse yourself in the local history, traditions, cuisine, and natural beauty. In just a few kilometres, Basilicata offers a world to explore, bursting with the colors and scents of spring.
There are seven tours that make up a circular itinerary through the region, passing through 36 hamlets and five parks, including Parco nazionale appennino lucano Val d’Agri Lagonegrese, Parco regionale Gallipoli Cognato piccole Dolomiti lucane, Parco regionale del Vulture, Parco regionale della Murgia materana and Parco nazionale del Pollino. The itinerary includes 23 different trails to explore.
There are a variety of hikes available, ranging from three to 25 days in duration and featuring different themes such as the sea, mountains, castles, hamlets, and places of worship and culture. For example, the 'Discovering the valle del Noce’ hike spans 40 km from Maratea to Lake Sirino and takes three days, while the 'His majesty Sirino’ hike covers 110.5 km from Maratea to Marsicovetere and requires six days.
The third tour, „Lungo I castelli di Federico II” (Along the castles of Federico II), covers a distance of 182 km and takes eight days, starting from Lagopesole and ending in Matera. Following this, the fourth tour, „Basilicata coast to coast, tra fede e il Pollino” (Basilicata coast to coast, from faith to the Pollino), spans 187.5 km over nine days, from Maratea to Policoro. Lastly, the fifth tour, „Camminando tra i borghi più belli d’Italia” (Walking through Italy’s most beautiful hamlets), covers 205.5 km in 10 days, starting from Castelmezzano and ending in Matera.
Two new tours are now available for those looking to explore the beauty of Basilicata: 'In cammino verso Matera’ (Walking to Matera), which covers 314 km in 16 days from Maratea to Matera, and 'Camminare in Basilicata, itinerari tra borghi e natura’ (Walking in Basilicata, itineraries amid hamlets and nature), a 501.5 km journey from Maratea to Matera and back over 25 days.
Visitors can access the online guide, which includes technical information and a Qr code storing GPX tracks for each stopover. This allows them to download routes with information and stories related to the territory, cultural heritage, and the region’s wines and culinary treasures. With the ability to choose their preferred activities and organize a personalized trip based on their taste and fitness level, visitors can also enjoy short walks within the seven itineraries to experience the local beauty.
